Ryan Powderly is a community convener, DJ and producer based in Naarm (Melbourne). He specialises in dance music production and live performance workflows with Push Standalone. He is most energised by helping students find their own artistic voice, with an emphasis on finishing songs through feedback and refinement.

He has worked with Ableton Live and DJ’ed in clubs since 2006, building a diverse output across production and songwriting. This includes releases with his former band Retiree on Rhythm Section International and his Transit State project on labels Soothsayer and Planet Trip. He also produces under Pelvis and runs Pelvis Records, releasing underground dance music from local and international artists.
His energetic live sets use Ableton Push 3 Standalone as the core performance instrument. His DJ sets weave local discoveries with tracks connected to his blog house roots, balanced with forward-moving dancefloor tools.
As an educator, Ryan moved from student to teacher at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music and also teaches DJing and production at RMIT University. He founded electronic music school Big Racket, recently hosting artist-led workshops with Sleep D and DJ Haram. He facilitates Ableton User Group Naarm, a free community meetup at Arts Centre Melbourne.
Ryan teaches topics across Live, Push and Move. Much of his mentoring is about supporting students to shape a core idea into a functional, finished track. Core topics include Introduction to Ableton Live, Designing Sound with Operator, Beat-Making with Move and Performing with Push. These are delivered through one-to-one mentoring and group workshops, both online and in person.
