Ross Elliott is a musician, DJ/producer, sound designer and community music practitioner with a passion for electronic music, experimentation and technology. His own musical work has spanned drum and bass, house, experimental music and sound design, releasing music under various guises on labels including Mark Broom’s Beard Man and Madrid-based Matterwave. His current work focuses on techno and experimental sound design.
Alongside his work as an artist, Ross has created music and sound for film, television and theatre, including composition and sound design with composer and sound designer Sen Na on projects such as Cannes Film Festival-nominated Stolismenos. He has also worked with theatre producer Javaad Alipoor, contributing early sound design and composition to works including Hurr.
Ross is particularly interested in the possibilities of audio installation and interactive music technology. Through his work with Allstar, a youth organisation in Bradford, he helped develop a permanent interactive installation at the National Science and Media Museum, allowing visitors to remix and explore music across different genres.
Community music is central to Ross’s practice. Through Allstar and other projects, he has provided free and funded opportunities for young people across Bradford to explore music production, DJing, performance and traditional instruments, with a strong belief in the power of music to build confidence, wellbeing and opportunity.
More recently, Ross has been developing accessible music-making systems for SEND settings, using Ableton Live as the core of flexible setups that can incorporate visual tracking, adapted controllers and alternative methods of musical control. He is particularly interested in Ableton’s modular possibilities and is currently developing Max for Live devices to help make music technology more accessible. His belief is simple: music should be accessible to everyone, regardless of ability, additional needs or financial barriers.
