Play it Live: Tips from Certified Trainer Dan Freeman and Dubspot

Ableton Live is a versatile tool for live performance - you might expect as much, given that “Live” is in the name! There are many ways to customize your performance setup with Live, however - and Certified Trainer Dan Freeman demonstrates some useful ones in a couple tutorials for Dubspot.

Bass Plus

To start with, Dan demonstrates how to build effects with easy macro mappings for live processing of his bass guitar - though any live input instrument can benefit from such a setup. Learn how to do this in the video below, and get into using Dummy Clips for triggered automation:

Get Your Set Right

Once you’ve got your live instrument effects set up, you’ll want to make sure that your Live Set is optimized for performance. In another tutorial, Dan provides five tips for doing just that. From general clean-up of Clips to keeping an eye out for CPU, these are practical tips that will save you a lot of frustration when performing - and let you keep the focus on the music.
