FAQ

Can educational licenses be upgraded?

Yes, but the education discount is only available when buying a new license and cannot be applied to upgrades.

Does the educational version of Live have the same features as the full version?

An EDU license has all of the same features as a regular version of Live.

Can I buy an educational license for a friend or family member?

Yes, educational licenses can be purchased for a family member or friend, as long as they meet the educational requirements. The purchaser will need to upload the recipient’s details when verifying the license.

It is not possible to use one's own educational documents as verification for another person.

Can I keep my educational license once I finish school?

Yes, the educational status is only relevant at the time of purchase of your EDU license. You can keep using the license without any limitations even after you are no longer enrolled.

What is rent-to-own?

Rent-to-own lets you rent a Live 12 Suite license on a monthly basis. Once you’ve made enough payments to cover the full license price, you’ll own it in full. You’ll have full access to Live while you’re renting it, and you’ll pay the same amount as you would for a one-off purchase.

How is rent-to-own different from a subscription plan?

With rent-to-own, each payment goes toward owning a full license. Once you’ve completed all payments, the license is yours to keep.

A subscription, on the other hand, involves paying a monthly fee indefinitely, with no possibility of ownership.

Can I pause my rent-to-own plan?

Yes, you can pause your plan at any time. You’ll retain access to Live until the end of your current billing cycle.

If you resume your plan after pausing, you’ll start making payments again and your progress towards license ownership will continue where it left off.

Do I need to be online to use Live with rent-to-own? How does Live check whether my plan is active?

Live needs an internet connection the first time you launch in order to activate your rent-to-own plan. After that, Live will periodically verify that your plan is active. You can use Live offline for up to 3 days between verification checks.

If your computer stays offline longer than that, saving and exporting will be disabled until Live can reconnect and verify that your plan is active.

Can I get Live Intro or Live Standard with a rent-to-own plan?

No, rent-to-own plans are only available for Live Suite.
