why is pc audio disabled when live is on?

  • when live is on, the pc audio is disabled, so i cannot, for instance, record sound from webpages or videos.  or If pc audio is  playing, live will not launch, it just hangs on the launching graphic. how do i share the box simultaneously as a default? 

    my interface is Focusrite scarlett 2i4


    i am on windows 8.

    in the first instance I'd suggest going to Control Panel, Hardware, Sound andchecking through all the settings for your audio interface.

    the I/f should have come with a manual, and it ought to have recommended settings for the different operating systems.

    one in particular you should be looking for will be something like "exclusive access" - this will mean that whatever app first starts and grabs the audio I/f will not share it with any other apps that start after.

    Hi there, 

    This might be a limitation of your ASIO driver. ASIO drivers are offering a much lower latency than the default MME / direct X drivers you would find on Windows, but this comes with the downside of  audio only available in one application at the time with some of them.
