Why does my new controller automatically lock to mapped devices?

Hello! :D

I just received the controller/sequencer Beatstep from Arturia, and stumbled upon a problem I haven't had with any other controller: Every time I map it to a device - let's say to the attack in Ableton Lives Auto Filter plugin - the assigned knob will work ONLY with that attack. That is, whatever I have selected (perhaps a different device on a completely different track); every time I turn said knob, only the Auto Filter attack in the first device will change.

Even if a add a new Auto Filter to a different track and select it, turning said knob will only change the attack of the first Auto Filter.

Usually, my controllers work with the devices selected (unless they are being locked to my control surface), but this is definitely not the case with the Beatstep.

I've read the manual for Beatstep, set up everything in the included MidiControlCenter, checked everything I could think of in Ableton, but I just can't seem to figure this one out by myself.

Does anyone here have a clue what to do? What am I missing here?

I use the following:

Mac, Yosemite.

Ableton Live 9 Suite.

Arturia Beatstep.

Midi Control Center version 1.1.

Any help would be much appreciated! :D

A universal MIDI mapping in Live, so whatever device is in focus will be controlled by your MIDI controller, only works with an active control surface script.

Manual MIDI mappings however will only control the parameter which you have mapped on a particular device or function.

So as you mentioned, applying a MIDI mapping to an instance of Auto Filter will only work for this single instance.

    Hoper this helps,

Aha! Well, that explains it! (Guess that means I'm off to find an active control surface script for the Beatstep, then.)

Thank you very much for your help!

    Have a great day! :D
