Why can't i MIDI map??

I just recently bought the akai mpd32, and i've been trying to map sounds to the pads and i just can't get it working. Shouldn't it be as easy as entering the "MIDI" Map mode and dragging & dropping? it'll work with just the first pad, but that also triggers the next sound. What am i doing wrong?

Midi map mode is used to connect midi controls to buttons/ options in Live. So you should have your sounds play in a sampler/simpler, drumrack or something like that. Then you enter midi map mode, click on the control you want to map in Live, and then hit/turn the knob/pad on your midi controller that you want to assign it to.

You don't map it to samples, but to controls.
