When Live 9 is open, I'm unable to hear anything on line?

E.g. I find a tutorial I like on You tube and would like to (stop the tutorial at times) switch over to Live and try it, to see if I got it, but once Live is open, I can't get any sound from Youtube or anything else. Chrome is my browser.

thanks Jim

It could be that Windows is giving exclusive access to Ableton. Here's a guide to turn that off - http://dailykermit.wordpress.com/2009/09/11/windows-7-exclusive-device-control/

If you've an external sound card it could be that the card is struggling to play to different output streams. My old card had that issue if my DAW was using the card for ASIO output and my browser using Directsound. The two would never work at the same time.

mbcpete is right; this is almost certainly ASIO doing what it's supposed to.  Switch to DirectSound output in Preferences to hear both at once.  I don't think there are any other options; that's the tradeoff you get for the low latency benefits of ASIO.
