What is "Play By Key" on the Operator's Filter?

When I right click on the Freq knob, it shows me "Play By Key" and I noticed the frequency changed when I choosed the option. What this mean?

Thanks a lot!

It means that the filter will be set at the pitch of the incoming MIDI note, so if you send A3 to Operator, the filter for that note will start at 220 Hz, if A4 the filter starts at 440 Hz and so on.

It does this by setting the Key->Freq parameter to 100% (so the filter goes up and down exactly as the pitch does) and setting the frequency of the filter to 466 Hz (as you have seen).

To easily see it at work, you can send white noise from one operator through a BP24 filter with high resonance (this can be really loud, so maybe put a limiter after).
