want to pan audio and impulse in live lite 8 on laptop

using live lite 8 on a pc laptop.

i've got a metronome type sound sampled through impulse, and an audio file in an audio track.  i have a stereo plug in the headphone jack on my laptop that splits into 2 mono.

what i want to do is send the impulse track to the right and the audio track to the left. i figured i'd just hard pan those 2 right and left respectively, but i still hear both tracks in both outputs.  i figure i'm missing something stupid but i can't figure it out for the life of me.

    I think this isn't possible with your current headphone jack.

    If I understand you correctly, you are now splitting the total (stereo) signal into 2 mono signals. That would mean that the mono signals are simply the same as the stereo signal, but then converted to mono (a.k.a. no stereo sound)

    try this;

    - send one track to external channel 1 (pan hard left)

    - send the other track to external channel 2 (pan hard right)

    - plug headphones into a normal stereo plug (so not that splitter)

    - make sure the master receives channel 1 & 2.

    - play both tracks, and you can hear one on the left, and the other on the right.
