Using Live for live synths as well as backing tracks

When my band play live we use Ableton Live Intro for backing tracks. I have each song assigned to a scene and then use the Enter key to trigger each song.

We have a live keyboardist who's synth has been somewhat unreliable and could do with replacing.

Is it possible to set up my Live projects with synth plugins that change settings/plugin as each scene is selected so I can give the keyboardist a USB controller and each time I hit enter to start the next song she's setup with the right sound straight away?

How would I set this up?

I think you can do this by using program changes. Assign program changes to the synth by setting the correct program change in each clip.
So every time you trigger a clip, the corresponding synth will automatically jump to that program/sound.

There are some tutorials available on the web.

Read ableton's brief on MIDI first. There is latency induced to the MIdI signal received from the controller, before it hits the virtual synth. I have found this to get in the way, making rhythmic accuracy impossible for realtime performance.
