Tempo automation in session view when using Follow Action

Hi,

I have a song where the first half is at 100bpm and the second half is at 120 bpm. Both sections have parts that loop in them.

I have typed the bpm into the scene name, and when I manually trigger the scenes the Master Tempo changes correctly. However when I use Follow Action to trigger the next scene the Master Tempo does not change.

Is there a way to make this work?

I have a show opening in two days, (hence the working on Christmas Day!) So any response greatly appreciated!!

Hey there, looks like you want to have follow actions for scenes themselves. This question seems to crop up a lot, and none of them have good answers.

There are two ways I know of that can make this work.

    1. If you don't mind routing MIDI out of and back into Live, you can use clips with MIDI envelopes to change tempo in Session view. See this video (skip to 4 minutes or so  )

    2. Using Max for Live. I'll go ahead and assume you're not into writing your own Max patches but it's very possible in Max for Live to use clips to change and automate tempo. Because I'm procrastinating really hard, I did up a quick Max for Live device that will let you do this. Chuck it on a spare MIDI track, and you just name each clip a number, i.e. '120', '128.44' etc. Firing that clip will change the BPM to whatever you just named that clip. Make follow actions for these (as well as follow actions on nameless clips) to taste.

This should be entirely possibly with ClyphX - http://beatwise.proboards.com/thread/992/current-version-clyphx-live-8

Here's an overview of the script -

(if the video doesn't appear and you're using Chrome, click the 'Load Unsafe Script' symbol that appears on the right of the web address bar)

For Arrangement view Mr Bills method works really effective too but I was looking for a session view method ;-)
