Sampling multiple synths back into Live... live

Alright, I need some advice.

I have several good synth/drum machines that I want to use in conjunction with Ableton for live performances (just picked up Live 9).

After sending midi, I want to resample multiple audio tracks back into Ableton to get a great live mix (doing a hardware/software hybrid). I'd have to have about 4 stereo and 3 mono audio tracks going back into Ableton to accomplish this properly.

Is this possible? I have some great gear and I'd love to use it live.

If it is possible does anyone have some advice? 16 midi tracks and 11 audio tracks sounds like a mess, can I hide redundant midi tracks to reduce clutter?

Need to figure this out before I buy an interface with a sh*t load of inputs.

Thanks much.

I link in a fair bit of external gear (mostly effects gear and guitar preamps) to Live via an ancient Akai ME30P MIDI patch bay and an Echo AudioFire12 (for your sh*t load of inputs).  Works great in the home studio, I don't see why it wouldn't work live.
