phasing problem on my NYC return channel.

So I though  I understood the basics of parallel compression, but I cant get the sound right.

I think I have a phasing problem caused by latency.  So i have the drum channel playing, and a send sending over signal to the NYC return, and I get a very odd filtered sound.  If I turn the NYC volume up, I can clearly here a double  "thwak"  on each note. So I'm pretty sure the filtered sound is caused by that latency.

Am I setting up something wrong? How do I solve this and use parallel compression correctly?

Thanks!

Ok I just discovered that if I group my drum channel , and then send the audio over, the phasing sound goes away??? Why is that?  I added no additional processing on the group channel.  Whats going on?

    "Double Thwack?"

Is it a UAD plug-in? (Or any other type of DSP accellerator plug-in?)
