.mov file "not readable or not licenced"?

I want to drop a video in a video track. I tried this with a h.264 .mov file and a photo-jpg .mov file. In both case there is an error message that the file is either not readable or not licensed. ?!?

Using Windows 10 and Ableton Live 9.7.2.

This works with mac OS 10.12, so I suspect Windows 10 to cause the problem.

is the Quicktime player required to play the .mov file in the video track? I read that is is not recommended to install it on Windows 10 because of security issues.
