midi notes not sounding

Scenario: I've written an arpeggiated midi track that consists of a constantly repeated note (C2) with various eigth notes making up the melody.

Now the problem is that every now and then the C2 stops being audible for some unknown reason. I'll play through the song fine and then try it again and halfway through it drops out. I'll close the project and re-open it and it may or may not work. The dropout is completely random and i am stumped as to what could be causing it. It's not a controller issue as it's the written notes i have a problem with. Playing it live it sounds fine. Now i know i can just rerecord the part in a new project and bounce it down to audio but that's hardly a solution. I don't want to work around it, I want to solve it.

I've seen a few people have had this problem dating back a couple of years but none of those threads actually got resolved. Hopefully now some new information has come to light.

Anyone have any ideas?

    What synth/vst are you using?

Could it be that some notes drop out because the release of the vst is set too long so after a while there are more notes playing than the vst can handle so it starts voice stealing?
