Midi Mapping - sliders work, arm track doesn't

Pretty simple question really - picked up a cheap second hand Novation Remote on ebay for live use - usually I have used a nice hammer weighted keyboard as my midi controller and combine that with a Launchpad - but I needed more functionality to control levels, so got the Remote as it has a rack of sliders.

I have started trying to map some of the sliders to my live set and hit a few snags.

The keys pick up fine, as do any of the sliders or control knobs that I map.

However, none of the buttons map - as in, Live sees that it is getting a signal from that part of the control surface, but it doesn't trigger.

Is it something in the preset on the Remote? What kind of Midi signal does it need to send?

Did you select the novation in Live's control preferences?
and did you make sure te Novation sends midi messages through the correct midi inputs?

In your preferences page on the midi tab make sure the "Takeover" drop down is on something other than "none". That's what fixed it for me.
