Mapping Multiple Buttons to one Macro Knob

My problem is this, i have been editing Nev's project for First Of the Year so that i can play it on my Push controller. The thing is he uses a chain selector to switch banks of sounds while he plays, it is all mapped to a macro that has a value of between 0 and 7 where depending on the value the bank changes.
What i want to do is somehow map it so that when i hit a button it changes the macro value to 2 instantly, and when I hit another button it changes the value to 5 etc. Is there a way i can do this? For now i have it mapped to a knob, but thats not what i want.
I own Max for Live if that helps, but don't really know how to use it well so it would take me a lot of time to learn to program my own device to do this.
I have already extensively searched these forums and online for the answer so forgive me if it has already been brought up.

Hi there . This is one of many easy examples that can be programmed in max .

In this case  ,the device adds +1 or -1 to the current position in the Chain . But it can give you an idea i wish.
