Mac OS X Spinning Beachball When Entering Preferences in Ableton Live 9.1

Hey everyone, I just installed Ableton Live 9.1 Suite (My first version of Ableton) and I noticed that when I launch the preferences after first loading Ableton that I get the spinning beachball for about 30 seconds.

After that, there doesn't seem to be an issue, but I'm wondering if this is normal behaviour? Does anyone else experience this?

I'm running a Macbook Pro Retina 15" 2.3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 with 16GB Ram and a 256 GB SSD.

Edit: I'm on OS Mavericks.

All of my Ableton Sound Packs are on an external USB 3.0 Hard drive (I've tried loading preference with and without the hard drive plugged in).

Perhaps this is normal behaviour, and if so, my apologies.

I have that same behavior, but with this added: the spinning ball only appears for half a minute when I select the "FIle/Folder" tab. The other tabs are appearing immediately. This behavior suddenly (or so it seems) appeared out of the blue.
