i7 desktop slower than i3 laptop?!

I've been using Live 8 and 9 on my Win7 laptop for a year or so before buying my Win8 desktop, the specs on the desktop are considerably higher, 3 times as much RAM, i7 instead of i3, and alot more space, but yet it is slower than the laptop, eg. Loading EQ into an audio track takes about 1.6 seconds on the desktop yet on the laptop its about 1 sec, and it is the same with any device in Live 9. Any suggestions?

Perhaps this could be an issue of Disk speed.

Was your copy of live installed on an SSD on the laptop?

Is it installed on an SSD on the desktop?

This is something that could explain a slower loading time as you need to consider disk access times.
