I am gearing up - What to buy?

Dear Ableton Users,

This question has probably been asked a million times. I am planning to buy some hard/soft ware but am lost and do not know what to get.

I want to produce Deep House & Techno. I like the old stuff from Marc Romboy, Stephan Bodzin, Oliver Huntemann and also everything from Mark Henning, Konrad Black, James Holden, Nathan Fake, Spieltrieb, Stimming and so on.

I have been looking at the Minimoog Voyager for quite a while now but it is too expensive.

What synthesizer, effect machines, drum machines could you recommend for these styles of Deep House & Techno?

Best and thanks in advanced,

technically speaking you would only need a sequencer, good sound card, good monitor speakers/headphone, basic midi controller and a decent computer first, before you even think about buying more gear.

Next, try to get to know your gear and setup BEFORE you buy loads of stuff.

A lot of really good tracks are made with little more than software.

Personally I would definitely consider something like that Minimoog, or a similar analogue style synth. If that is too expensive, have a look at some software synths that emulate analogue gear. (Minimogue, for instance is a freeware Moog emulation that has some great sounds. Of course it won't be exactly the same as analogue gear, but with the right processing it can create great sounds!)

A good drum computer/drumsampler or at least a good professional drumsample pack is important too. But with good samples you can do great things just using Ableton's own sample players.

Last but not least; look for some good fx like compressors, limiter, EQ and filters.

It's not so much about the gear, but much more about the way you use your resources and creativity!
