How to map a small midi range (e.g. 0 - 50) to full parameter range?

Hi everybody,

I've searched and read alot of stuff, however was not able to figure this out:

I would like to map a small midi range to the full parameter range (of an arbitrary parameter).

E.g. I have a (cheap) midi rotary controller (like the BCR2000 ;-) ) and would like to control a parameter by only slightly moving the rotary knob. Let's say Midi Value 0 - 40 to the full cutoff range.

I know that this makes resolution very coarse, however im sure that there should be a way of achieving my goal...

I DONT want to map the full MIDI range 0-127 to a sector of the parameter range (which is described everywhere and where all my previous searches ended), I would like to have it the other way round (and accept the loss of resolution of course).

I hope somebody had the same problem and knows a solution...

Thought about this one for ages and concluded there was no way to do it. But then a friend of mine came up with a solution to emulating a DJ mixer EQ potentiometer (knob) and I realised that it also solves your problem (and mine).

    Ok in a nutshell:

    Enjoy : )

It can be very easily done in Live.

With Live in Midi map mode, click the browser open panel.

You will get a chart of the MIDI mappings

You can assign the values there.
