How do I control a drum rack nested inside another drum rack?

I made a drum rack, and then placed some midi effects before it.

then i chose to group into a new drum rack

now the drum rack with the actual drums just sits in one slot.

how do i send the midi data in there?

First you need to show the chain in Drum Rack, then show the i/o settings, then you need to set the MIDI in note to 'All Notes' using the drop down menu. Here is an image to help:

Hey guys! 2 year later and I have a simple followup hahaha.  Say I wanted to have one drum rack designated for hi hat work. In this drum rack, I have two drum racks in c1/c#1 that control multiple layered closed hihat and open hihat sounds respectively.  How can I control each of these nested drum racks exclusively? Because when I select the midi-in as "all notes" for both nested drum racks, they merge and each midi note plays both the layered open and layered closed hihat sounds.
