It could be that the beats are being warped to a different tempo using beats mode (check the clip to see if there being warped and what the original tempo is) - if there's large difference this can affect quality.

It's the warping. 2 places it could go wrong.

    1. The warp markers are in the wrong spot. To fix this, get the session tempo as close to the audio before importing it. This way Ableton will be able to warp at the original tempo.

    2. Check the warp mode. Using beats on a sample that has notes and pitch will make it sound like crap. I use complex pro by default.

Not sure why it would change but you might want to try making sure your project sample rate is at 44.1K. That's most likely the sample rate of the beats you're getting off the internet.

Also, verify that the clip isn't being warped just to make sure that can't be the culprit. Lastly, make sure that it's not your audio interface if say, you listen to music on your iPod or iTunes on a different computer then come home to your studio and play them back in your project through an audio interface. try to play them through the speakers on your computer to test.

Try to drop other wav or aiff files into your project to see if they exhibit the problem as well. If not, what's different about them? Is there DRM on the files?

    Just some things to check...
