Another +1. The way it is done in Reaper and Studio One is you select the clips you want to compare, with all clips appearing in the same piano roll, and the clip being edited has normal notes, with the inactive clips transparent and muted. In Live maybe another color could be used, you could have a selection of clips and their colors could be the colors used in this mode, and you just select from the palette of clip colors from a small chooser to enable the frontmost track. It seems totally doable and would really compliment Live.

+1. I'd like to see several clips in the midi edit window simultanousliy, like chords, bassline and melody.

Sadly this function is not available in Ableton as you can only have one MIDI clip edit window open at a time.

If you could edit MIDI in the arrangement view this would be possible and very useful. I suspect this will happen sometime.

It may be possible to use Max MSP to create a multi track MIDI edit window but I don't know enough about Max to be sure.

+ 1! I would like to be able to edit the midi notes of different clips in the same window, like Cubase or Reaper...

PLEASE SORT THIS OUT ABLETON STAFF! Surely seeing so many people request this must mean it's rather important... I came here simply needing to do it across only two midi clips, trying to speed up my workflow - hate to think how these guys editing orchestral parts are feeling.

I believe the functionality moondancer is missing is the one from Cubase where it is possible to select multiple midi clips. Then in the Piano roll the notes from the selected clips are displayed and can be edited simultaneously.

Since this is really handy, I hope similiar feature will be added in a future version of live.

+1... it's kinda odd Live came to the 9th version without adding this feature. It is the only one thing i am dramatically missing from the likes of Cubase, and the one that will eventually make me shift to a new DAW if it comes near Live in terms of useability (Bitwig maybe?). Please at least release a Max patch! you know, usually harmony is used in music production...

Bitwig does this very, very well IMO.  Learn from them, and then make something better.  Not having it at all makes it really difficult for me to compose anything in Live at this point

    Hi Stoersignal,

I would love to be able to edit separate clips in the arrange view, on different tracks, just to be able to line up midi notes of a bass line exactly with a kick that has a unique groove to it without needing to extract groove and apply to the individual clips.

I think note edit would be the most useful. But for all other functions of the clips to remain as stated on their respective channels but able to move the note position.

I've been doing this in digital performer for years and years, it's the only missing feature in Ableton left that is a true creativity block. The constant switching between midi clips is so confusing, especially since they all often use different timelines. I have to do math in my head to figure out where to put notes in relation to other tracks' midi clips.

please please please add this feature and catch up with every other DAW

+1 for multiple midi clip editing. I write orchestral music, and it's crucial to see and edit multiple midi tracks simultaneously when e.g. building chords using different instruments - say double bass, cello, violas and violin. Note editing would be minimal, but also automation editing would be very important.

Only seeing a single note every time - and clicking around the other tracks and trying to remember their contents in my head - makes it virtually unusable for this type of work.

This is an unfortunate Ableaton dealbreaker for me.

This functionality is available in many other DAW's, e.g. Cubase, Pro Tools, Sonar - and even BitWig. Loving Ableton for many years now, but unfortunately I need to look at the other alternatives - if version 10 doesn't bring in the cavalry to allow multiple midi clip editing..

Please add this feature. Pretty much all other DAW can do this!

It's the only thing holding me back from moving away from ProTools completely.

+1! I was very disappointed when this wasn't introduced in Live 9. It's the only feature I really miss in Live, and I've been using it for 10 years now.

It feels ridiculous to enter each individual clip, even just to transpose one bar one semitone. I often have 10-15 instrument tracks following a chord progression. This is basic stuff that every DAW should have.

    Fingers crossed for Live 10.

The 1st request for a simple tuner device was made in february 2010.

February 2015: Ableton just released a BETA version with it.

Exactly 5 years after the request it's finally here. The Ableton team is so into listening their customers! Respect guys, very quick move!
So If they work on that rythm and if we are optimistics, we should have the ability to edit multiple midi tracks on one piano roll in 2017. I'would more bet for 2020 as it's quiet dificult to implement :)

New browser AGAIN maybe in 2030

BITWIG seems to be the real answer

    That's it,

As I'm waiting for a official answer from Ableton since 2010, and still have no clue if it's going to be implemented, I've decided to sell my Live 9 suite licence and my push. The auction starts at 1€ with no reserve: http://www.ebay.fr/itm/141592648937?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649

    This is sorely missing!

Seems like a simple concept: compare and compose two lines of music simultaneously.

+1.  Seriously Ableton, it's embarrassing that you don't have this feature yet.  Makes your DAW so much more onerous for anyone doing orchestral or complex compositional work.  Both note and automation editing of two or more MIDI tracks in the same window.

Prioritize this, please!  Or at least give us an honest answer about why you're not programming this in.

    SOLVED!

This deserves a round of applause, Chaos Culture have just released an M4L device with Isotonik Studios. It is a full solution to multiple MIDI clip editing and beautifully executed. Yet another example of how Max for Live combined with Ableton Live makes anything possible... here's a quick walkthrough I made but there's more on the Isotonik website.

what do you want to do exactly?

are the clips on the same track?

what do you want to edit? notes? envelopes?

do you want another track to get the same midi information as an other one?
