Drop-offs and crashes
I have recently bought Ableton 9 Standard and a new laptop for my live performances. What I am currently using is:
Dell Vostro 3560-9487
- RAM: 8 GB 1.600 MHz
- Processor: Intel Core i7-3632QM 64-bit - Cache L2 6 MB
- HDD: 750 GB SATA 3 Gbit/s @ 7.200 RPM
- SSD: 32 GB SSD
- OS: Windows 8 Professional
- Soundcard: Edirol UA-25 (USB)
- Controller: Akai APC40
This is a brand new computer, with a fresh Win 8 install. I removed all the bloatware, removed/deactivated anti-virus, anti-spyware, firewall, anti-malware and deactivated any unneeded device (wi-fi card, bluetooth card, fingerprint device, etc.). All I have installed on this computer are Ableton 9 Standard (9.0.6) and my souncard drivers (both official and ASIO4ALL).
I also performed some minor registry tweaks:
My live set is really light, since I import separate tracks from another DAW and split them in 8 audio tracks only (no midi tracks, no external plugins, vsts, etc.). Nevertheless, I experienced random audio drop-offs, no crackling or distortion, but the master audio just disappearing for a few seconds, then coming back on. To fix this I tried to load all my clips in RAM (current live set size is around 3 GB total, so that shouldn't be a problem with my 8 GB RAM). After this the random drop-offs did not happen anymore, but I started getting a new issue: after like 10 minutes from when I start playing my liveset (likely 15 scenes) I start getting a very short drop off when changing scene, right at the beginning of the new scene. This goes on for a while, until eventually Ableton crashes, no more audio and I have no way of controlling it through the APC40 and not even mouse. All I can do when this happens is restarting Ableton and realoading my set and after this everything seems to work fine.
As you will probably know this is quite a big problem while performing if Ableton is 100% of your live set, I've already sent an e-mail to Ableton support, but I was wondering whether any other user already had this.
Thanks in advance!
