Controlling Audio outputs from Plug ins in new audio tracks

Hi

Can someone please help me?

Example;

1. I create a new Midi tack and insert D16 Drumazon Drum machine. The great thing about Drumazon is you can assign individual outputs to each drum sound.

2. I change the audio output of the crash to channel 2.

I do this because I want to independently pan the Crash from the other drum sounds.

3, I create a new audio channel next to my midi instrument and select channel 2 from the Drumazon as it's input, I now hear the crash sounding as I would expect in the new audio channel. I can pan the sound, and all seems well with the world.

Now I want to automate (record) the pan action of the crash. If I arm the track and record it works but I now inadvertently also record the crash sound into my new channel as an audio clip. I did not want to do this , I just want to record the panning of the crash sound.

It seems that pan will only record if there is an audio clip in that track. I just want my new audio track to be a dumb outlet for my Drumazon(if that makes sense) that simply records the pan control.

Any hep is appreciated?

    Not 100% sure, but if i'm not mistaken it doesn't matter if you record the audio in that track as well.
    Audio recording and midi (in this case the track panning) are separate.
    So theoretically, you can simply delete any recorded sound in the arrangement, but the midi modifications should still be there.

    Another thing: if you record the sound as well, that means you have armed the track that receives the audio input (channel 2 in your case).
    But all you have to do when you record any changes in Live's settings, is activate the main record button. Automation will be automatically recorded. By arming that single track, it will however also record the audio.

    Hope this helps!

    Brilliant. Thanks for replying.

    I've reached a solution thanks to your help and pointers. I found that If I recorded silence I can then record the pan changes too. I can then edit and re-draw the pan to where Iwant it in the clip. This is in session view.

    I also tried recording using the main record button and this did work but only by recording the results into arrangement view. I only want to records automation in session view. Thanks again
