Thank you for the response! But how do you get to this point.. I can search for the answers myself, but where do I start?

Is there a switch I haven't turned on on the Kontrol S4 hardware? Is there a mapping thingie I need to do from the computer, talking to the S4? Do I need to start the S4 in MIDI MODE?

The s4 should be in MIDI mode, if that's what you mean.

I'd try reinstalling the software/driver, and then this: "I've had an issue a couple of times where I lost midi from the S4. I had to unplug the S4 then delete the S4 as a midi device in the OSX utility, replug it in and then rescan for new device. "

Seems to me like it's currently a problem with OSX not properly recognizing the s4 as a MIDI controller/interface for some reason.

Also you might want/need the controller editor: http://co.native-instruments.com/index.php?id=freeupdates#Controller_Editor
