Automation Timing Issue.

Hi Everybody,

I'm having a 3rd Party EQ problem with the Pro-Q from FabFilter.

I automate the frequency of one of the bands to change on bar 5 beat 1, but when I play it back, the change occurs on bar 4 beat 4, which is a full beat early. I checked the automation I wrote in the clip and it is right to change on bar 5 beat 1, but the change that is happening is wrong. Do you guys have any idea what might be happening? The track is a moderate session with 10 to 12 tracks running around 500ms latency on a Mac Pro running Lion 10.7.1. The machine is about 3 years old.

I'm asking FabFilter too, but I'm asking here to see there is an answer to this issue on the Ableton side.

Any help help would be great.

You can separate (Unlink) the envelope automation from the clip loop length, which means you could have an automation loop or 5 bars and a clip loop of 4. Check the status of the Linked/Unlinked button in the clip envelope window. Also you could just have your play cursor for the clip at bar 2 or something.

Of course this might just be obvious stuff but without knowing if you checked this it's hard to start working out the problem. I seriously doubt that there is some kind of fault it's more likely to be something you overlooked.

Unfortunately this is a known Problem with Live - innacurate automation timing dependent on your buffer size.

The only work around appears to be moving the automation deliberately late by an equivalent amount, using your ears until you're happy. So in your case, moving the breakpoint in question to the second beat, and then with luck it will kick in at the right place! A ridiculous situation really.

This is a real pain and lets hope that this gets sorted one day as it is a major problem for many using Live.
