ableton freezes ableton and mac

i upgraded to OSX Mavericks and now my Ableton Index crashes ('not responding') after opening Live and browsing my library. Eventually this either crashes Live, or freezes my entire system. Installed the 9.1 beta but same problem...

    ABLETON!

I know we are not the only people with this problem! I am almost unable to work. My Ableton freezes up the entire computer and I am forced to restart my computer manually. I know that can't be good. At least ableton doesn't lose the music- for the most part.

Really frustrated that Ableton is being so quiet about this problem, and goes on like nothing is wrong. As soon as they knew that 9 was not going to be compatible with Mavericks, they should have notified their users to not upgrade until they had a compatible version. At least something on their home page to notify users.

same thing here. everytime i am on Live 9 on my Mac my mouse and keyboard freeze. what can we do to stop this? I paid a lot of $ for a production class on Dubspot and i can not continue with my education cause Live continues to crash my whole system. What is being done about this?

this crash has been happening only in Arrangement view and seemingly since
    i’ve upgraded to Mavericks..

i do most of my work in a live theater environment in Session View and have not had this problem at all.

But in the studio, with two different projects now (which are both late btw..) i’m making arrangements for rendering and i lose the mouse cursor, including the trackpad and spacebar control and ability to switch applications..

i’m stuck in Ableton with the sound and counter running, but otherwise cannot regain control of the computer.

so i do a hard restart and send in a crash report.
    fourth one since Nov 5.
mainly because most of my work is in Session mode.

but i have some important rendering to do.

Command + Option + Esc brings it back and you dont have to go through with the force exit - this worked for me so far

Joined the beta program but the latest beta froze and stopped playing which is unacceptable for live use.

only thing useful at the moment is doing manual zoom, avoid any attempt to zoom with the mouse, using only keyboard shortcuts, it works for me atm

Try disabling plug ins. It worked for me in some cases. Some basic Max for Live plugins destroyed a day of my studio life. grumble grumble :.) I kept overlooking them too because they're part of the basic Max for Live plugs.

Same thing happens to me on Windows 7, as it has been since i updated to Live 9. Indexing crashes, everything gets stuck, and only a full restart helps to get things going again. Very very frustrating!

Same issue with Ableton 9 on Mac i7. Trackpad and keyboard freeze but Ableton continues to play track in arrangement view. Has happened at least 5 times but does seemingly back up information using the undo information saved according to the error message. Have to manually shut down entire system and restart. Am downloading 9.1 as we speak and will also try the CMD+OPT+ESC to see what works.

Same! I've never experienced this problem on my Mac laptop seemingly until I upgraded to Mavericks. I'm working in arrangement view and am listening to what I've made so far, and suddenly I can't find my mouse and my keyboard is unresponsive--and my CPU usage is only 3-6%! Each time I have to manually restart the laptop, and I send in the crash report...this is probably the third one in a week. I'm a beginner on Ableton, but I know something's up. I hope Ableton fixes this soon.

Command + Option + Esc does work, thank you djaamon! My macbook charger & battery  died and I had already up (but really down) graded to Mavericks on my imac and so I have to use it for now. This saves me!

Same problem here, if im lucky enough to load ableton without crashing ("not responding") I cant open my session, because it does the same thing-it's completely debilitating, with the newest beta as well.

    I'm a bit confused...

I don't have Mavericks, still running Snow Leopard, yet I do seem to have a similar freeze...

No mouse/keyboard input possible for my entire system, although I'm able to move the mouse cursor and turn capslock on/off. Is this the same for you guy's? Also the cmd-alt-esc fix works for me.

I have it at loading my latest beta of my developed m4l midi device. Its a very big thing and it makes my system freeze only since 2 day's, in total 8 times. Most of the time during the loading of the device, but also at total random moments while operating it.

It could be a m4l problem, but since this thread seems so similar as my problem. Any idea's?

same thing has happened to me 2!  ive had mavericks for months now and everything was just fine.  i just had an update about 3 weeks ago for mavericks and EVER SINCE i updated (just 3 weeks ago) not ONLY ableton but my whole computer seems to be acting weird!!!  it wont shut down properly some times. now ableton crashes or pushes out a buzzing noise some times!  bad timing for me i have a live show on the 30th.  wtf im scared its going to crash or send out a terrible buzz right in the middle of a live show :'(  is there a way to revert back before the update?  i thought that updates were here to fix problems not create MAJOR ones....im going to write to apple now that i see its not just me

Hey guys, I had ALL of these same problems,

Ableton was freezing my computer, forcing me to restart it constantly or having to use cmd+alt+esc. index crashes, program crashes etc etc.

All of this started after upgrading to osx mavericks...

The official compatibility guide says that Live 9.1 works. well it don't...

    BUT

    Live 9.1.2!!!!!! DOES!!!!!
I installed 9.1.2 and ALL of my problems have vanished, I hope this helps guys.

    Hi All,

There is a temporary fix for the issue of unresponsive keyboard/mouse.

Try pressing command+option+escape for mac users.

Not sure how this will translate to PC shortcuts, but will make the keyboard and mouse responsive again.

hopefully a permanent fix will be available soon.
