A bit confused about Sampler....

Hey all,

i am new to Live 8, and don't have Suite, thus no sampler. I purchased some

Hip/hop drum loops on a site, and unzipped the folder and all was fine.

I opened the loops, and when i clicked it to load, it said "The product sampler

is required to go beyond this limitation"....I thought i had some great drum loops,

but am confused. I guess i need to purchase sampler, but why are these loops like this,

while others i've downloaded where fine?

thanks for the help/advice!

    Hi there
If you have Live 8 then you may have to buy Sampler, which is Samplers bigger brother, which offers more creative features.

Some Ableton Live sets are created by using Sampler and Simpler, you should in theory be able to load  others loops into a your Simpler device.

Sampler is available only via the Suite,so I'm guessing your Live library was created and produced using the Suite version which offers both devices

Was there any information, suggesting this before purchase?

I don't see why you would need Sampler for loops. A loop is played in an audio track with no instrument. Sampler is for multisamples or drum kits. And besides, when you buy a sample pack with Sampler multisamples, you would expect to get all the one-shots separately anyway.

I would first complaint / comment on the site from which you got those loops. Because there is absolutely /no/ excuse why those loops wouldn't work in Simpler. Ableton isn't such a nasty environment.

Any sample guy who owns Sampler can setup an awesome setup, even multilayers, then right click on the titlebar and use "Sampler -> Simpler". It keeps the functionality but obviously limits the editing capabilities for anyone who doesn't own Sampler. But it does allow Live 8 users to, well, use this stuff.  So if this doesn't work the fault is with the author of those loops.

2nd...  Should you consider to buy Sampler (IMO its a very nice instrument) and suddenly get tempted to buy more (Operator & Analog are also awesome) then beware!  Because for the price you pay for 2 or more instruments you may be easily capable to upgrade to Suite instead.  Something to keep in mind...
