Bethanie Liu (she/her) is a music technologist and artist. A multi-instrumentalist, she blends recorder, flute, keyboards, and voice with controllerism, creating dynamic live performances. She teaches electronic performance, songwriting, music production, and live show programming.

A classically trained recorder player and pianist, Bethanie has performed at international venues including Carnegie Hall, Conservatorium van Amsterdam, and St. John’s Smith Square London. She now extends her performance practice into the realm of electronic music. As a performing artist, Bethanie’s distinctive blend of recorder, keyboards, and Ableton Push performance has led to appearances on Korean television, as well as performances at venues such as Agganis Arena, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, the Sheen Center, and the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. She has also worked with numerous award-winning artists, including Grammy- and Emmy-winning Alphabet Rockers.
Bethanie has presented and performed at conferences including the International Computer Music Conference, the New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival, Society for Music Perception and Cognition Conference, and the Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States (SEAMUS). In education, she has taught and led programs across the United States and Hong Kong, working with both higher education institutions and non-profit community organizations, in formats ranging from private lessons and group workshops to public-facing seminars and presentations.
Currently at Stanford University’s Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA), Bethanie’s work focuses on electroacoustic performance and composition, digital signal processing, and cochlear implant and hearing science, with an emphasis on advancing accessibility in music creation, listening, and live concert experiences.
