Simple vocoder effect (without vocoder)?

Is there a plugin or method to achieve a simple vocoder effect? I know there's Vocoder, and tons of other plugins, but I'm hoping to find something which doesn't require a carrier signal.

It won't sound as good as a "real" vocoder, I know, but what I'm looking for is a way to manipulate a live vocal into something of a robotic sound without needing to accompany it with another instrument.

There are iPhone apps and standalone footpedals which do this, just looking for an Ableton solution.

Thanks for any tips!

Bitspeek by Sonic Charge might be a good solution. Very robotic - quite configurable and fun too.

you either need to acompany it with another midi track as orange vocoder does or you need to find a vst that will distort your voice in such a way that will do that possibly using granular effects. something like morphvox or livecut may do the job, but that will probably not work for live performance. or you can just find the perfect string of audio devices for a voice to start sounding like a robot.

if you use orange vocoder, you only need midi :)

you can also just send the vocal through those footpedals and into ableton. very easy with the external instrument.
