Rewire no longer works with Live 9.01 & Pro Tools 10.3.3

I just discovered that I cant use Live 9 as a rewire slave within Pro Tools 10. It turns out I can still use 8.3.4 as I normally did. But if you Launch PT10, select Ableton Live as an instrument, then launch Ableton 9 to start using it, you get the following error; "The ReWire application has detected a difference version of Life than the one last used. Please quit both the current ReWire master application and Live, then launch Live once as a standalone application so that it can install its ReWire engine." Been there, done that, didn't work. A reinstall of both Pt10 and Ableton 9 doesn't resolve the issue either. Any ideas?

I was getting a runtime error on my windows machine every time I tried to rewire Live 9 64bit to Reaper. Live 8 worked fine. I have contacted Ableton and got this reply. It seems we will have to wait for a fix.

    Thanks for your e-mail.

At the moment Rewiring Live 9 64-bit as Slave is not working: our developers are aware of this bug and we hope to release a fix very soon.

We are sorry for any inconveniences, and please do not hesitate to get back to us should you need further assistance.

    Kind regards,

    Ableton Support

It's broken in all DAWs, it's a general ReWire problem with Ableton.  No reaction from the devs yet it seems.  So far it is being narrowed down to the DLL being broken.

    From Steinberg's forums at https://www.steinberg.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=175&t=36138#p231877

Yup, you nailed it. The Ableton Live Engine.dll in 9 is bad. If I manually write in the regedit to look at the one in Live 8, the Rewire panel appears in the Devices panel and 8 will Rewire. But as soon as you start 9, it changer the regestry back to the .dll file in Live 9 and it doesn't work. Good job sir! Now lets see how long it takes Ableton to fix it...

Ridiculous and really annoyed.  I have used Live as a rewire tool for 5 or 6 years into Cubase.  I'm a studio engineer with regular clients and have just spaffed money up the wall for one of my main tools to be disabled.  Sort it out!

Rewire 'works' in Live 9.0.4 and PTHD 10.3.5, but MIDI cc causes hard crash of PT!  I have spent hours diagnosing the problem, no solution yet.  Live 8 rewired works fine with PT.  I can assign and use MIDI cc for knobs and sliders in Live, while playing back vocals and guitars in PT.  This immediately crashes PT using Live 9 rewired.

I desire to work simultaneously with Live and PT on tracks.  I cannot do this without a working rewire.

Sorry I couldn't help,I have the same issue but running Studio one 2.5.1.
What astounds me about Abletons forum, is that the moderators and developers don't chime in to help solve issues.. This forum isthe most useless forum of all DAWs . Even Steinberg climb in to help out with customer issues. Lets hope we get some answers on this issue soon.
    Good luck

Ahh haaa !! Thx a mill guys. I also mailed support but only got back " can you pls simulate the issue and send it to us" what the crap! They must've known a while ago that it is broken. Why don't they just post it in their FAQ for know instead of us waiting our time trying to figure this out... Can't wait to have it working, gonna be kickass!!!

Ugh I hate waiting for a fix from Ableton, their patches for these blocking issues seem to take forever.

Rewire hasn't worked on my computer since that fateful update of Live 8, even though I tried the "replace"-install.

When I installed Live 9, I completely removed Live 8, but it's still busted.

AND NO VST INTRUMENTS WHEN LIVE 9 IS IN REWIRE SLAVE MODE IS totally insane from the ableton team...

Everybody want to use live 9 and route everything into another daw for final arrangement, mixing ... personnaly I would like to use samplitude with it's object base editing and very good mixer etc..

Some might want it in any other daw like sonar etc..

You would be suprise how many people from other daw would buy live for the composition part..

Was really hoping Ableton could address this problem. I upgraded Pro Tools, bought a Push with Live 9 suite.. and with all of that feel like I have taken a big step back in terms of how my DAW works.   Come on Ableton please post a fix for your customers.

I read somewhere that if you install Live 8 after installing Live 9 first, it will correct the issue.

    Hi there,

Just quickly jumping in on this one with a statement on the current situation with Live 9 and Rewire.

Although there was a very specific Rewire issue in early versions of Live 9 64 bit, we are currently not aware of any general malfunctions of Rewire in Live 9.

There is a known Protools Bug however, which can occur if Live 9 was installed after Protools. Since Protools only scans the Rewire Plugins after the initial installation, you need to force Protools to rescan for the Live Rewire Plugin.

You can read more in this thread from the official Avid forum:

    http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=342378&highlight=Rewire

Another known "issue" some users run into, is the new way Logic X deals with Rewire. To enable Rewire in Logic X, you would first have to activate the according option in the Logic preferences.

More info on this, and general advice on Live with Rewire can be found here:

    https://www.ableton.com/en/articles/using-live-rewire/

If you encounter any difficulties, please always send an email to support@ableton.com or get in touch via the contact form on our help page, since neither the forum or Answers are an official support channel from Ableton.

    Best,

    David
