How do you TURN OFF automation?

Ok so I'm really trying to use Ableton for professional tracking but man some of these features annoying.

When recording a vocal I don't need to be automating everything I do. For example, a singer wants more volume in the headphones, I don't really need to automate that movement I just need to turn it up. However with record enabled Live automates EVERYTHING which is cool if I was mixing but useless when I'm tracking, WHY IS THAT NOT AN OPTION?

Is there a way to turn off the "auto" automate everything I touch feature?

I REALLY hate Pro Tools with all my heart after 10 plus years of using it but now I'm starting to see why it's the Professional standard. With all it's mind blowing features, when it comes to the absolute fundamental pro needs Ableton is very underdeveloped.

I second you on that. But on the other side, when playing Live like an instrument, I like the fact of not being obliged to have to engage automation on every track. So maybe an option for a global disable of automation write would be nice.

If you finish recording the track, all you have to do is go to the automation that is unwanted (arrangement view, next to the in/out settings on your track), right click, and delete the automation of one or all parameters on that track. Takes 2 seconds....

Other options include; using session view for recording everything in a clip.

    I don't really see the problem :-)

It's missing features like this that make people call Ableton a toy. I'm always trying to bring people over to Ableton but I have to caution them when it comes to the fundamentals of recording and mixing. The guys at Ableton were so forward thinking when designing this product that they overlooked some of the basics. The strange thing is that we're at version 8 and no one has addressed it.

In Live 9, we've added an automation arm button which allows you to globally turn off automation recording.

Exactly, all we need is the OPTION. I think it's a great feature but completely unnecessary sometimes. Ableton is king of flexibility except in some very crucial places.

Honeatly, this is ludicrous that to turn off particular tracks when I'm recording a new one, I record over the automation on those tracks, at least for on/off. That is inexcusable.

I echo the sentiments expressed here : It would be wonderful to make a parameter invulnerable to the writing of automation.

I would love a button to disable ALL automation on one click. When I've finished making a composition I then break elements down to perform live. I have to delete all automation manually first before exporting of loops!

Please Please Please Ableton guys fix this!!! Somebody start a grassroots movement - an occupy Ableton or something... I considered switching my entire studio over to Cubase, but Ableton is really superior in so many ways and I really enjoy using it. They just need to fix this issue, and maybe a few other holes when it comes to simple tracking/editing and mixing. Recording takes in session view is not an option unless maybe if you're doing simple 1 track recordings. If you want to record an entire band live off the floor you need to be able to see a detailed view of the waveforms as they're being created. Global automation disable button, automatic return channel delay compensation, and a better way to manage multiple takes (Cubase has the lanes feature, brilliant idea, just steal that. boom.)
