YI SEUNGGYU โ€“ Media Artist ยท Noise Engineering Researcher ยท System Architect

YI SEUNGGYU is a system-based media artist and performance architect who designs, researches, and creates integrated works that bridge media art, noise engineering, and machine learning-based sound systems.

He studied Art Engineering and Media Art at Seoul Institute of the Arts and Kyushu University, and completed the Sound Design and Synthesis course at Garnish Music Production School in London.

As an Ableton Certified Trainer, he teaches algorithmic composition, electronic signal processing, interface design, and the aesthetics of system-based media.

His work integrates analog modular synthesizers, digital signal processors, real-time control devices, and Max/MSP-based software environments to construct computationally layered performances that combine noise, randomness, circuitry-driven rhythms, and visual abstraction.

Recently, through his projectย SINGULAR_GLITCH.perform(), he has developed a multi-layered real-time computational performance platform.

The system integrates machine learning algorithms, CV/MIDI control circuits, audiovisual signal processing, and feedback mechanisms.

Predictive values generated in Max/MSP and Wekinator are translated into CV and MIDI signals, routed into modular audio systems, and processed in Ableton Liveโ€”executing the full protocol of input โ†’ prediction โ†’ control โ†’ response โ†’ output as a live audiovisual computation.

Technically, the system functions as an interactive signal processing circuit; artistically, it defines a performative language where data meets intuition.

He is currently a doctoral researcher at the Daryl Jamieson Lab (Department of Acoustic Design, School of Design, Kyushu University) and a full-time professor in the Department of Media Art Technology at Busan Arts College.

He actively exhibits and performs internationally in cities including Seoul, Tokyo, New York, Berlin, Copenhagen, San Francisco, and Shanghaiโ€”proposing new performative paradigms through signal-based media computation.
