Merlyn Silva

  • Denmark, Aarhus

Merlyn is a music producer, sound artist and teacher based in Aarhus, Denmark. When he’s not creating spacey, emotive electronica with a psychedelic twist, he enjoys using Ableton Live to make performance projects that interact with acoustic musicians, dancers and even cups of coffee.

Originally from the UK, Merlyn has used Live since 2006. With an academic background in both electronic composition and physical theatre, he has spent the last decade creating work for a wide range of media and spaces, and loves using Live to make sounds, solve problems and connect things.

Merlyn discovered his love for electronic dance music through festivals and parties in the early 00’s, and became fascinated with the craftsmanship and creativity of music production. After years of experimenting and autodidactic learning, he enrolled at DIEM, the electronic wing of the Royal Academy of Music in Denmark, where he earned his master’s degree in 2015.

Merlyn is a multi-instrumentalist, and after years of playing in rock, punk and dub bands, he is particularly experienced in teaching Live to solo vocalists, producers and live bands

With a broad knowledge of production and sound, Merlyn has a particular passion for creative sound design, motion-capture with Live, and composing dance music. From structured beginner courses to bespoke masterclasses, academic lectures to live performance workshops, Merlyn offers tuition in Live, Max for Live and Push for individuals, groups and institutions.
