Drew Mayhills is a passionate organisational coach, lead educator and music producer with a demonstrated history of success teaching in a range of contexts including the public and independent school systems, tertiary education, immigration detention and the disability sector. He is a firm believer in the power of creative musicmaking as a means of unlocking the potential in disengaged young people, and an advocate for innovative approaches to student behaviour and engagement.

In his current role as a Teaching and Learning Coach, Drew works with early career teachers throughout Western Australia, facilitating powerful conversations that inspire the pursuit of personal and professional growth. Through his engagement with Ableton’s Push Initiative in 2017, Drew was one of the first teachers in Australia to design, implement and launch an electronic music course with 1:1 student access to Live and Push in a public secondary school.

An accomplished guitarist of 20 years, Drew was drawn to Ableton Live in 2013 when he realised how he could extend the possibilities of his own creative expression. As Mayhills, he uses Live and Push to compose, record and perform his unique brand of rock-infused electronica. His song ‘Formlessness’ from his debut release ‘Post Romantic’ was nominated for the 2018 WAM Song of the Year in the Electronic category.

As an Ableton Certified Trainer, Drew provides a range of tailored learning experiences introducing Ableton Live and Push to secondary students and school-based practitioners. In collaboration with clients, Drew can construct a flexible and learner-centred approach combining 1:1 coaching, small group classes and a ‘train the trainer’ professional learning model for teachers.
