His students range from true beginners to Grammy winners. Brian is one of the very first five Ableton Certified Trainers on the planet - from the inaugural event in May 2008 in NYC. He was co-owner and Director of Education at Devotion Gallery for its 5 year run in Williamsburg, Brooklyn - which also served as his Ableton Certified Training Center. (Devotion Learn is merging with Form Labs in early 2015.)

He is the author of a 4-part Live 9 course on, three tutorial DVDs on Ableton Live (versions 5,6, and 8), as well as technical editor of numerous books on Live and Pro Tools, amongst others. Since moving to NYC in 2002 he has taught music production and audio engineering privately and at numerous schools in Manhattan – SAE, IAR, The New School, and DMX Touro. In addition to teaching, he was also Electronic Music Program coordinator at SAE, and Curriculum Director at Dubspot. This wide variety of experiences has given him a unique perspective on audio and music production education – he knows what works, and what tends to fall short for most students.

Brian's involvement in DIY, independent, and underground music culture started in Detroit more than two decades ago. He has produced various styles of electronic music, played bass in bands, promoted club events, attempted a record label, as well as Djing after-hours parties. From award-winning experimental video to TV shows such as 24, his sounds have been heard worldwide. He uses the pseudonyms Infinite Volume and Ciphony for solo works and remixes, was half of the conceptual retro-future electro synth A/V duo Memory Systems, and co-founded the genre-bending band "I Am Spoonbender" (1997-2000). Whether assuming the role of engineer, remixer, or consultant, he's worked with the likes of Neurosis (Tribes of Neurot), Idris Elba, Chris Baio (Vampire Weekend), Bombay Dub Orchestra, Dion Roy, Chemlab, Dj Riz, Ableton, Access (Virus synthesizers), supporting members of The B-52's, Cyndi Lauper, and Rufus Wainwright, and more.

Brian earned a B.S. from Western Michigan University in Sociology and Philosophy, and his M.A. in East-West Psychology is from The California Institute of Integral Studies, San Francisco. He lives and works at his studio, Form Labs, in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NYC.
