Your mission

Are you ready to lead the charge in transforming VAT processes and driving innovation within a multinational environment? At Ableton, we are redefining how indirect tax is managed, using a digital-first, process-driven, and strategically integrated approach. In this role, you will work closely with the Global Head of Tax to reshape and automate the global VAT function while ensuring a solid foundation of compliance and governance across all jurisdictions.

This is a hands-on, end-to-end role—balancing daily operations with high-impact initiatives in automation, process design, and cross-functional collaboration.

This position is based in Germany. We offer the option to choose your own work model where you can alternate flexibly between remote and on-site work in the office (for those whom reside in Berlin).

Your responsibilities

  • Drive innovation through automation and technology to enhance scalability and efficiency in indirect tax operations. Collaborate across teams to integrate tax engines, improve data flows, and lead VAT optimization and digitization initiatives (e.g., e-invoicing, OSS, etc).

  • Establish and maintain robust global VAT compliance processes, ensuring accurate filings, control implementation, and risk monitoring across jurisdictions.

  • Oversee registration management, threshold tracking, and internal Quality Assurance to secure consistent compliance visibility and governance. Define VAT governance controls and oversee compliance and operational risk management.

  • Engage proactively with cross-functional teams to monitor global tax developments, address risks, and identify opportunities for continuous process improvement.

  • Stay current on global indirect tax changes to assess business impacts and compliance risks. Partner with external providers and tax authorities to improve data quality, manage audits, and drive efficient, cost-effective compliance processes.

  • Lead VAT assessments for new business initiatives and global expansions, ensuring alignment with indirect tax requirements. Support audits, coordinate with local authorities, and manage transitions or project handovers to ensure continuity and strategic alignment.

Your profile

  • You have the ability to work innovatively and can leverage tax technology and AI to streamline VAT processes.

  • Your background is in tax technology with a professional qualification, an indirect tax advisory qualification and four years of experience in providing indirect tax advice in either a Big Four or a large MNE.

  • You possess deep indirect tax technical expertise with strong knowledge of international indirect tax issues.

  • You are an excellent communicator—analytical, articulate, and skilled in both written and verbal communication.

  • You are a collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills, able to build relationships and influence across functions with professionalism and confidence.
