I'm speechless....

So instead of enabling 64bit file support you just put a hard limit of 2Gb on freezes???? Well I guess I'm the only one here who deals with live recordings more that 50min long.

Hi michkhol,

This 2GB limit exists also for recording & rendering, it was just not working properly for freezing. So that's what we fixed

Unfortunately the 64 bit file support you did mention is not nothing on the level of "enabling". It needs research and effort but it's an issue we are working on. Bu when and how it will make it into Live I cannot yet say.

Regards,
/Alex

I see inconsistency here. I was able to record an audio file, it is less than 2Gb but I'm not able to freeze it. I would assume once a system allowed me to get the file in, it would allow me to perform all kinds of standard operations on it.

I'm glad that you are working on it. Frankly I'm surprised that Ableton still uses 32 bit file support because uncompressed high quality audio files can be (and are) quite big. What I meant by "enabling" was passing right options for compiler (GCC for example) to support 64 bit file access. If the program is written with 64bit file access in mind from groundup it's the matter of recompiling. But it seems for Live it's not the case. :(

Its possible to write/create ie. 50gb avi files in 1 process on a 32 bit system. Whats the difference ?

If you use 32bit signed integers to store clip offsets for non-desctructive editing for example, it won't work if the clip is beyond the 2Gb boundary.

So is there any way to record longer than 50min, like some live gigs?

Well, if you have a piece of software that can record longer than 2 GB files, use Jack OS X or Soundflower to route your Live output into that app... This is on OS X, mind you... not sure about XP.

Sorry, don't know which apps support the larger file size, off the top of my head.

60 min mono at 96/24 takes about a gig. Freezing it takes more than twice space (don't know why). It seems that the only way for now is to use another DAW.

I believe freezing takes twice the space because it will loop through the audio twice so it maintains a proper tail for 'verbs and delays...

In envelopes mode in an audiotrack,
when you click in the area above the loop brace,
then click back on the loopbrace itself,
the loopbrace still jumps to the left.
Just wanted to remeber this one.
