generally I think it shows up dressed in Ableton garb complete with canvas control but if you press the disclosure triangle it'll show the designed ui.

Try Quartz Composer, it's free with Mac OS X Tiger (in the included dev tools package) It's quite straight forward, powerful and can be controlled via midi.

Apple's new mighty mouse seems to have some pretty sweet options for navigation, would it be possible to link the x of the scroll sphere to slide through an arrangement, and the y to zoom in and out? that would put to an end the headache of having to pull and release to get through long sets.
