You can now use Follow Actions on Push to structure and perform Sets, or explore more flexible ways of sequencing clips and scenes.
To turn on a clip Follow Action in Session Pad Mode, hold the Play button and press a clip’s pad. To turn on a scene Follow Action, hold the Play button and press a Scene button. You can also hold the Play button and press a track button to toggle Follow Actions for all clips in the track, or press the Main button to toggle Follow Actions for all scenes. Enabling Follow Actions for all scenes lets you quickly go from looping scenes to playing them in a sequence, which makes it easy to create song structures or launch a prepared sequence for a performance.
By default, Follow Actions are set up to play the clip or scene below them after they finish playing once, but you can change this behavior in the Clip View. To edit clip Follow Actions, press the upper display button above the clip name to view the clip editing menu, then press the Follow Actions lower display button to view the Follow Actions menu. To edit scene Follow Actions, press the Main button while in the Clip View, which will open the scene editing menu.
You can edit Follow Actions for different clips or scenes by holding the Select button and pressing clip pads or Scene buttons.
The clip or scene editing menu includes the option to turn Follow Actions on or off, as an alternative to using the Play button.
The Follow Action length is set to Linked by default, and the Multiplier value determines how many times the clip will play before triggering the next Follow Action. Use the upper display button to unlink the Follow Action and set the action time in bars. Action times for Scene Follow Actions can be linked to the length of the longest clip in a scene. Adjust the Multiplier value to choose how many times the longest clip will loop before the Follow Action is triggered.
Actions A and B determine which type of Follow Action is triggered after the current clip or scene finishes playing. Press the A/B upper display button to switch between Action A and B, then use the encoder above the button to select a specific action. The Chance slider sets the probability (as a percentage) of either Follow Action being triggered. For example, if a clip or scene has Chance A set to 90 and Chance B set to 10, Action B will be triggered approximately once every ten times the clip or scene is launched.
A new 16 Pitches layout has been added, which you can use to play samples melodically in Drum Racks and in Simpler’s Slicing playback mode.
To access the layout, load a Drum Rack or Simpler, then press the Layout button until you reach the 16 Pitches option.
The pitches in the layout follow the Set’s key and scale settings, or a loaded tuning system if one is in use. You can play and record the pads in the layout and use them to sequence notes at different pitches in the step sequencer.
To change the layout’s octave range, press the Octave Up or Octave Down buttons. You can use the touch strip to navigate to different pads in the Drum Rack.
Note that for Drum Racks, the instrument on a drum pad’s device chain must be set up to receive MPE pitch bend to work correctly with the layout.
Two options for bouncing tracks have been added: Bounce Track in Place and Bounce to New Track.
You can bounce the audio of a clip to a new track via the clip context menu. To do so, hold Shift and press a clip pad, then press the Bounce Clip lower display button. The track containing the bounced clip will be automatically selected.
To bounce the audio of a track in place, hold Shift and press a track button to access the track’s context menu, then press the Bounce lower display button.
You can now access the Groove Pool directly from Push. This lets you add, swap, and edit all of your grooves, giving you full control over the timing of a Set. Note that you can save all of the settings from the Groove Pool into Templates or the Default Set for easy access.
To access the Groove Pool, select a clip and open the Clip View, then press the upper display button above the Groove selector. Press the Add button in the Groove Pool to add a groove, or use the Swap button to change the currently loaded groove to a different one. Press the Remove button to remove the selected Groove from the pool.
In the Groove Pool, select the groove you want to edit. You can then use the encoders and buttons to adjust the groove’s settings. The Global Amount can be used to change the amount of groove access the entire Set. Press the Save As upper display button to save the selected groove and its configuration to the User Library.
You can automatically add grooves to MIDI clips as they are created. To do so, press the Auto Add upper display button in the groove editing menu. Note that Auto Add can only be enabled on one groove.
You can now load an alternate tuning system directly from Push.
To load a tuning system, press the Scale button and then the + Tuning upper display button. Then, use the jog wheel or encoders to browse and load one of the tuning systems. Once loaded, you will see a panel on the right with information about the active tuning system. You can use the encoders above the info panel to scroll the text. The Scales menu is automatically updated to reflect any changes to the keys and scales that are contained in the active tuning system.
If you would like to restore Push to the default tuning, press the Reset button using the lower display button below the tuning info panel.
Expressive Chords is a new Max for Live device that lets you play chords from a predefined chord set using a single finger. Fully integrated with Push, it’s available as a Pack included with Live Intro, Standard, and Suite.
You can change chord sets by either loading a preset or by importing a MIDI clip. When playing back a chord, you can use a number of parameters to transform the dynamics, shape, and timing of the chord’s voices in real time.
When Expressive Chords is selected, Push’s pad layout changes as follows:
The first two rows of pads can be used to pick one of the available articulations.
The remaining pads light up to indicate the location of available chords, just as in Live.
MPE data is passed through a chord, but can also be used to modulate any of Expressive Chords' parameters, such as Slide and Note PB.
You can now adjust the tempo or time signature for the selected scene. To do so, open the Clip View, and then press the Main button to open the scene editing menu.
You can now access the scene context menu to rename scenes as well as assign scene colors that will be used as the Scene buttons' colors instead of the default white.
To access the scene context menu in Session Pad Mode, hold Shift and press a scene button. You will have the option to rename a scene by pressing the Rename lower display button or to choose a scene color on the pads. Note that the selected scene’s color is brighter than the colors of the other scenes, to help with orientation in the Set.
You can access the screen context menu in Session Screen Mode as well, by holding Shift and pressing the jog wheel.
External Audio Effect’s routing and parameters are now fully accessible on Push. The effect makes it possible to use hardware audio effects in any track’s device chain.
The updated Auto Filter now displays LFO and Envelope modulation on Push.
Added sidechain routing and filter to Auto Filter’s parameter banks.
Added Audio and MIDI sidechain routings to Roar’s parameter banks, as well as support for the new Delay routing mode.
Consolidated the sidechain parameters in Compressor into a single device bank.
In Auto Filter and Compressor, the routing menus are now displayed as inactive when the External sidechain button is off.
The DSP load of some devices has been slightly reduced on Windows and Push in Standalone Mode.
You can now quantize selected notes when editing notes in Clip View. Press the Quantize button to quantize the selected and hovered notes. Note that pressing the button will quantize the entire clip if you are not editing notes in Clip View.
The track context menu was updated to allow you to more easily select and group multiple tracks.
The browser now includes a horizontal scrollbar at the bottom of the display. The scrollbar is shown when navigating the browser with encoders or the Session D-pad.
When pressing Shift, the LEDs of any buttons that can be used in combination with Shift will light up.
An arrow icon now appears next to device names on the display for devices with multiple banks or options to indicate that additional settings are available.
Updated the Push 3 firmware package from 1.4.6 to 1.4.10. This update includes the following changes:
Polyphonic aftertouch from Push now ramps up rather than coming in immediately.
Improved analog audio and CV/gate latency compensation.
Smoother changing of audio sample rates.
Fixed some errors in the MPE values generated at the top and bottom rows of pads.
The LED frequency correction is now permanently applied to prevent flickering when filming.
Better firmware flashing progress and error feedback.
Better handling of cases where the Push 3 standalone compute module did not start up.
Push now offers more informative error messages when things go wrong, particularly at startup.
In Session Pad Mode, it is now possible to create a new empty scene by holding the New button and then pressing a scene button.
The Scales menu now uses the clip color.
When scrolling through tag categories in the Filter view, the tag categories leading to no results are now greyed out and cannot be selected.
Improved the speed of Cloud uploads.
In the Packs library, the "Install all" context menu option has been changed to "Install All Downloaded Packs."
The Python API for Max for Live now provides an observable property pad_layout in the control surface object, which contains a string describing the layout on the Push 2 or 3 pads.
It is now possible to tweak scene length, as well as select a linked scene option from the Scene Options menu.
Added the option to remove a scene color. The option appears when choosing a scene color on Push, in the form of a new white pad in the bottom row, fourth from the left; pressing the pad will remove the scene color.
Redesigned the appearance of the icon that signifies that a clip or device can be opened.
A walkthrough of the new features in Live 12.2 is displayed when starting Push for the first time after updating.
Fixed an issue where subtags became unavailable when scrolling through them in the Filter view.
Changing the drum pad selection via the Octave Up/Down buttons and then reverting to the previous selection no longer breaks the 16 Velocities functionality.
When holding a pad in the step sequencer to edit a step automation and turning or pressing the jog wheel, the Note Edit mode will no longer open in the background. The Note Edit mode can be used as usual once the step's pad is released.
Moving a Drum Rack while the chains are displayed now works as expected, similar to moving a Group Track.
Accent mode now works as expected when MPE is enabled.
Fixed a bug where recording a clip on one track would continue even if another pad was pressed to trigger recording a clip on a different track.
Emojis can now be displayed on Push 3 in Standalone mode.
The buttons shown on Push’s display when choosing the Collect All and Save option within Live now appear as expected.
Fixed an issue where some parameters (such as the Freeze control in Hybrid Reverb) could not be assigned to Macro Controls from Push.
Fixed a bug in Control Mode where the mixer on Push did not reflect the current mixer settings in Live when a Set was opened after Push was connected to the computer.
Meters on Push now use grey color for muted items, as expected.
Fixed a bug where the Resonator scale degree transpose parameters instead of the semitone transpose parameters were displayed on Push while a tuning system was loaded.
Fixed a bug where the Spectral Resonator scale degree transpose parameters instead of the semitone transpose parameters were displayed on Push while a tuning system was loaded.
Changing the drum pad selection via the Octave Up/Down buttons and then reverting to the previous selection no longer breaks the 16 Velocities functionality.
Push now displays the clip playback bar correctly when the clip's start offset is before the loop position.
When adjusting the Start and End positions of unwarped, unlooped audio clips on Push, the positions can no longer be set to before 0 or after the end of the clip, which makes Push's behavior the same as Live.
Fixed the following issues that occurred when filtering:
When browsing Drum Rack samples and switching between pads on Push, the filters are now reset properly as you move between pads.
Fixed a crash in Live that occurred when switching between different drum pads in a Drum Rack.
The time limit for entering a Wi-Fi password before the connection fails was increased from 2 to 10 minutes.
Fixed an issue where loading a corrupted file into an audio clip slot would cause Push to freeze. An error message will now be displayed instead.
Filters are now available in user folders as expected.
The Rename option that appears when editing macros is no longer available on Push 2, as expected.
Fixed an issue where resetting the sample gain by holding Delete and touching the gain parameter in Simpler would reset the gain to -inf.
Fixed an issue where filters were not displayed correctly when hot-swapping for the first time.
Fixed an issue that occurred when renaming files whose names contained a full stop character on Push, where the part after the full stop would be removed.
Adjusting the volume on Simpler's Oscillator page now correctly adjusts the oscillator volume instead of the overall Simpler volume.
Fixed an issue where some labels for controls in Push's Setup menu were cut off.
Fixed a bug where it was not possible to browse device presets if the device was found via a Collection label (i.e., a color label or Favorites).

Play Variations on the Pads (P2 & P3): Use the Layout button to access new pad modes that allow you to trigger variations using the pads while you play.
A default groove is now loaded with the default Live Set that is automatically applied to any new MIDI clip. By default, the Global Groove Amount is set to 0%, so all you need to do to apply the groove is adjust this value.
Press the Timing encoder on Push 3 to select Global Groove Amount. Turn the encoder to change how much groove is added to your MIDI clips without any additional setup.
In Clip Mode, use the encoders to change which groove is applied to the clip. You can select None if you do not want to apply any groove.
In the Groove Pool, there is now a control that allows you to select which groove you would like to automatically load for new MIDI clips. You can also use this control to choose no grooves to be loaded. The state of this control and the Global Groove Amount are saved with your Sets, templates, and the default Set, so you can customize the defaults however you prefer.
As with devices, press and hold a track or scene and then use the jog wheel (or the encoders on Push 2) to move the item. Moving scenes is a great way to get organized, or create a song structure. Now that you can move tracks by pressing and holding, you can arm tracks by quickly double pressing the track select buttons.
Filters: The browser now supports filtering and tagging.
Auto Tagging: As with Live 12.1, Push in Standalone Mode will automatically tag your user samples so you can easily include them when filtering content.
User Labels: You can now add your own user labels. You can also highlight a User Label, and then use the context menu to rename it.
Rename Collections: Highlight a Collection, and use the context menu to rename it.
Swap the Sample Inside of a Simpler: Select a Simpler device and press the swap button. In the bottom left of the browser there is a toggle switch that allows you to change where you want to hot-swap the device you’ve selected, or the sample inside of it. Swapping the sample allows you to retain the device and macro mapping settings.
Save Default Sets or Templates: In the Sets menu, press Current Set using the upper display buttons to show a new list of options similar to what you would find in the File menu on a computer. This menu includes new actions to save your current Set as the default Set or as a template Set.
Set Template as Default: Navigate to the Templates label in the Sets menu, then highlight a template and use the context menu to save it as the default Set.
Create a Wi-Fi network from Push and use it to connect to your other devices. This is ideal for when you are traveling or at a venue and need to transfer files, or if you want a stable Link hub.
The Wi-Fi control has been moved to the Status tab in the Setup menu. First, turn on Wi-Fi using the dedicated upper display button, then turn on Hotspot. Push will create a network name and generate a password. On the device you want to connect to, select Push's Hotspot as the network and enter the password. Once connected, you will be able to use Link and transfer files.
Note: When you connect a device to Push's Hotspot, you will not be able to use the internet on the device.
