Automation write destroys clip structure. Why?

Post by MallorcaMalle » Sat May 11, 2024 12:03 pm

In Ableton arrangement recording automation in realtime overrides the clip structure. I like to consolidate MIDI clips (CMD+J) and name them properly. When recording automation with MIDI controller or Push the clips boundries are overwritten.

Can anyone explain if there is a useful reason for this that I don't see? In other daws clips structure is untouched when writing automation.

Enable the Overdub button in the transport bar. The one to the right of the record button with the plus symbol.

Yes of course I mean with overdub enabled it destroyes the clip boundries and clip naming. Else it would delete the MIDI data when writing automation.
