A song in a night...

Post by nepotist » Wed Apr 08, 2009 1:31 pm

Because I'm loving Live 8 and felt like doing something quick I decided to do a song in a night, without thinking about it too much. This is how it turned out...

Nice. What did you use for it? Particularly the drum sounds.

Thanks! For the drums I used a combo of Battery 3, Stylus RMX and drumcrate...I think the bass was something from puremagnetik and the pad was from Live itself, everything chopped and warped and fx'd. Voice sample by Cat Power. If I would have had more time I would have layered the bass sounds a bit more, they kind of get lost but I gave myself a midnight deadline.

Did you do anything you couldn't have done in a previous version?

actually what started the whole idea was group tracks, I was messing around with turning different groups of drums on and off, then I mapped all the tracks to my keyboard and just recorded out of session view while i was playing the laptop keys. I wanted to see how it might work in a performance setting, with FX and stuff it's really limitless, I love it. Plus I used one of the Frequency Shifter FX and i think the pad is new to this version but i'm not sure (don't have it in front of me).

very nice track man
It was as if someone shook up a 6 foot can of blood soda and suddenly popped the top.

nice, got a nice feel to it. Its not just bollocky sounds and technical shenanigans, it has some nice emotion behind it.

thanks, i basically have more plug-ins and loops than brains so half the time i'm just trying to figure out what sounds good so it's a good method for me to try and do something really quickly every now and again without thinking...thank god for session view.
