Arpeggiating and Slicing Audio

Post by rawesome1ab » Tue Oct 02, 2012 9:29 pm

Hi guys,

First post so be kind!

I've recently gotten into the Boss SL-20 Slicer pedal. It's chiefly a guitar pedal but can be used with anything really:

It basically chops the audio up a bit like a tremelo, but with non-standard rhythmic patterns and pitch altering too, to create an arpeggiator-like effect.

Then I found the Molten Midi, which can abuse a whammy pedals pitch altering capabilities to create a similar effect on an audio signal:

So I'm trying to recreate this in Ableton! So far I've drawn automation separately for both volume and pitch to create the rhythmic melodies in my head, with optional beat repeat on the sample depending on how you want it to behave/sound.

But this isn't very creative - I'd love to be able to draw melodies (like when editing a midi region) that affect audio signals, kind of like you can with Melodyne, but set up in advance to alter a live guitar/synth part as you play:

I also really like the tremelo pedal-esque dials on the Boss SL-20, where things like attack are pretty conducive to creativity and playing it like an instrument:

Has anyone here done something similar? Or know of any plugins? Or found a more 'fun' way of achieve this in Ableton?

If I've missed a trick then I'm all ears - I'm a bit of a n00b and this stuff.

Thanks! :o

Hi ,I've been having the same thought!!! It seems like the slicer behaviour would be pretty easy to replicate with a plugin. I've tried messing with beatrepeat but I never get any useful sounds from it.
