Korg Pad Kontrol. How do you use yours?

Post by furrybum » Thu Mar 06, 2008 12:00 pm

I'm thinking of getting a pad Kontrol for Live use. I've seen videos of people using them in all sorts of ways. How do you use yours? Is it mainly for beats or do you have some fancy pants set-up?

Is it possible to set the pads up as on/off toggle buttons for effects. I want to do this so the one button can be used to activate and de-activate the effect.

Thanks in advance

Yeah definitely get one.

For production work I use mine for tapping out complete drum beats with Drum rack.

For session view, i use top row of pads for play buttons and second row for stop buttons (on four channels) and use knob 1 for scrolling rows. Works a treat with my DJ template.

The possibilities are endless..

There are also several solutions out there for using the Padkontrol as a step-sequencer utilizing its inbuild lights, plus one solution to use the Padkontrol for emulating a Monome (PK can use Monome software then). Use the search function to find the corresponding threads. ;)

I'm using the PK squared app for gigs (can't wait for the next version), and tinkering with the monomulator and the Farmpad apps at home..

I've got the PK set up both for remote control of Live with Mackie emulation
mode on one scene, and for pounding in drums on another scene. Scene one
is the most exciting, you might say: it lets me switch between session and
arrange; toggle loop, punch in/out, loop; launch scenes and individual clips,
undo/redo... I think the only parameters I couldn't hook it up to via Mackie
emulation were overdub and metronome.

And for drums, the PK is simply fantastic. The pads are so responsive.
