Who's had to clear external samples before, and what were some pitfalls (if any) that you encountered.

Cost is a major pitfall.

Yes, but cost is all relative based on what you intend to make off the track.

its fucking daft punk...and chances are youre sampling something daft punk has sampled.

so unless youre making at the very least 5 grand its not worth it. plus you have to clear two copyrights...one for the recording and one for the actual song...so youll probably have to negotiate with several people.

what are you planning on doing with the song

if its just to put it out there and hopefully have it released my advice to you is go ahead with no clearance and if a label picks it up they will sort that shit out

if your releasing it yourself or using it publically now thats a different matter

The labels are handling everything. I just wanted to know what other people have personally encountered in the past.

Edit to rephrase: I'm not looking for advice, just stories :)
