weird sudden pitch change bug?

Post by taximouse » Thu Jan 03, 2008 5:00 am

i'm mixing a large project in live (30 tracks). at least twice a day i experience a sudden change in the pitch of the ENTIRE set. the tempo has not been changed. the pitch of all the tracks goes down. it's very weird.

this happens when i've left the computer sitting for a bit (20 mins?). for the first time, it just happened when i had done a CPU expensive operation, and then i hit "undo".

the only way out is to quit Live and restart.

anyone else? i'm running 6.0.10

i've been using live for a couple years and never experienced this before.

it just happened again, and actually, the tempo is slower too. so tempo slower, and pitch lower....with no reason.
then shut down, restart...back to normal.

yes I've had this problem too....I can't figure out what causes it, but to fix it you can toggle the sample rates, at least that works on my macbook

....can you figure out a way to trigger the bug reproducibly so we can get them to fix it? It seems random to me...

tempo change sample rate BUG BUG BUG

Post by taximouse » Tue Feb 26, 2008 1:59 am

well, it only happens to me when my set is large and has been open for a while. for example, last night i was mixing down something, and it happened 4 times in a row over the course of 5 minutes. i restarted my computer and reloaded the set.

one thing i CAN reproduce is this:

-large set (ie more than 20 tracks of audio)
- leave the set open in the background for maybe an hour while you deal with email (ie no other large programs open)
-switch back to the Live set and press play
- audio will glitch and crackle and CPU will surge to 200%
- within a few seconds the pitch will suddenly go lower and the set will slow down...only way out is to toggle into 44000 and then back into 48000

i would call that a nasty bug.

I can get this to happen

Post by bbower1956 » Wed Feb 27, 2008 4:05 am

My Axiom61 with pitch bend up and not back down if I hit the pitch bend wheel up. Down does nothing so I have to reload the set. This did this in the V6 version before V6.10.

more data about this problem in case anyone is tracking it, or has similar issues.

i have all my sets in 48000. normally i use the Motu Ultralite.

this problem only occurs when i'm disconnected from the Ultralite, and using the Macbook Pro headphone output.

if audio is playing, and i happen to slightly jog my laptop, there is a glitch and after the glitch the pitch for the whole set is lower.

to fix it, i open prefs and toggle to 44000 and then back to 48000

another sure way to trigger it...while audio is playing, take the headphone jack out of the computer.

if audio is not playing, neither of these actions trigger anything.

WEIRD!

i am replicating it many times a day, unfortunately.

I'm getting a vaguely similar problem, but only when rendering - occasionally when I export an arrangement as a wav I find that one or more of the tracks has been pitched up or down by a two or three semitones. This doesn't happen if I do a real time resample, and it doesn't happen with every set.

I really think this has something to do with the way os x handles the switching of the headphone out from analog to digital when something is unplugged or plugged in...there is probably an exception being throw that ableton isn't dealing with properly that causes this to happen.

In addition to this problem I have a similar issue with using an aggregate device that only contains the internal macbook soundcard run at 24bit 96khz. If I unplug the headphones Live crashes immediately.

I upgraded from 7.0.5 to 7.0.7 and the problem has disappeared for now.
