Live as a multieffect machine!
Live as a multieffect machine!
Hi guys,
i want use live as a multieffect machine. The idea is to use 2 decks, a mixer and a laptop with live. Live will bring the output channel of the mixer, add effects to this line and go out to the amplifer.
In doing this i want to be capable to prelisten in the headphones the effect on the audio without affecting the audio that comes on the amplifier. After listen it on the headphones if I want i can send the effect on the out channel to the amplifier.
The only manner i have find to do this is to use 2 identical line in tracks in live the first of this tracks goes out on channel 1: (straight to the amplifier), the second goes out on channel 2: ( the prelistening channel).
Effects are in a send channel.
The wrong with this conf are:
-1: I must have a headphone with 2 jacks: one goes to laptop (on the prelistening channel) and one goes to the mixer.
-2: I have a delay from the prelistening of the mixer and the prelistening channel of the laptop (this is an issue that i figure isn't a issue).
Any suggestion to figure out the problem 1?
Can i use final scratch in conjunction with live? In this case i solve the problem 1 in a brillant manner.
Thanks for the support.
Have a nice day.
Clairo.

you're going to have a couple of problems. first is latency. yoiu need to find a way to either compensate for latency, the time it takes for audio to enter the computer and come back out again processed. also yo will need an audio interface with either a seperate headphone cues or extra/seperate audio outputs that Live is actually able to route(see Preferences).

i don't know of any product that processes audio that fast, beacause it isn't availible yet to consumers except for apogee which does something like 2miliseconds latency

Thanks.... but cause i want only know how to set up parameters for the effect before apply them and i do not have problems if there is a latency in my headphones (in that moment i prelisten only the channel from the laptop).BassTooth wrote:you're going to have a couple of problems. first is latency. yoiu need to find a way to either compensate for latency, the time it takes for audio to enter the computer and come back out again processed. also yo will need an audio interface with either a seperate headphone cues or extra/seperate audio outputs that Live is actually able to route(see Preferences).

The big problem is the semplicity of the set up! Going in party and setupping in the manner i have exposed up is most of times impossible to do. I can't figure out that no one have had some interface to solve this problem, isn't it?
Thanks!

The classis and most effective way. Use the fx returns if you dont have a third channel and run the whole damn thing through ableton if you dont have fx sends.Dr. Zoiberg wrote:use the sends on the mixer and route the laptop output to a third channel (or to the returns)
latency is not a big problem if you manage to keep the buffer small (try with 128 samples)
Thank you man, i'm going to test the setup right now.segue wrote:The classis and most effective way.
